I’ve been playing a lot of Zelda lately. What a cool game. It’s like playing interactive Samurai Jack. I think the cel-shaded graphics give it a kind of timelessness. Not that I think there will be a lot of historical playing of old games, but who knows with good emulators and such, my kids might be playing Galaga until late into the night.
UPDATE April 8, 2003: I beat Zelda this weekend. This is probably the first console game I’ve beaten in a good while. The last one I beat was probably Soul Calibur on Dreamcast.
The story has really unfolded and it is pretty cool. There are a few twists and it stays pretty fresh the whole game. I’m almost to the part where I go to the final dungeon and beat the final boss. The game is so action and puzzle oriented, both sides of my brain get a workout! It’s a lot of fun.
I’ve got every item at this point and I have 15 hearts. It’s pretty cool to be badass in this game. I think I’ve figured the best way to beat every monster in the game so far, unless some new ones show up in the final dungeon. I hope they do. This game actually pushes the Gamecube’s hardware pretty hard. I’ve noticed a few glitches with the graphics and once my game froze up when I was fighting a giant octopus in the sea. Not much harm done.
The little side stories are cool too. I like solving these side quests and walking into a town filled with people who are happy to be near me. It encourages my ego. Fun stuff. Next stop, kill Ganondorf. Am I really 25?
