Raising Taxes in Alabama? The People say NO!
Some of you from Alabama may know that our Governor Bob Riley tried to have a massive tax reform act passed by the people. Some of the things promised were more money for eduction, free college tuition, and better schools. This was going to be accomplished by raising property taxes, state income taxes, and other new taxes. The vote on the issue was yesterday and the people voted a resounding NO!. The plan lost by over 2 to 1.
Today, Yara and I were talking about the vote.
Harry: Wow, the tax vote really didn’t go well. I haven’t seen a smack-down like that since… since… I don’t know when.
Yara: How about since the last Auburn game.
Harry: Zing!!

hey harry and charlie -
wow, are you guys both against the tax increase?
where do you guys now stand politically?
i don’t know the details, but i don’t think tax increases are an inherently bad thing - in fact, i think in many cases they can have a salutary effect on the economy and people’s economic fortunes.
politically - i’d say i’m somewhat on the left when it comes to economic issues, and somewhat centrist or slightly on the right when it comes to social issues - a pretty dramatic turnaround from my dr. black days.

You know I haven’t seen a smack down like that since… since… the last Vandy game. Now that was a real smack down.
Quick let’s put in our third string quarter back and see if he can make a field goal too!

Just be glad that you don’t live in South Carolina! It freaking sucks here! Pretty soon I think I’ll have to pay taxes just to breath!
Truely Yours, Very unhappy South Carolina resident!
