Moving out forces you to take stock of all your belongings and ask you that important question:

Is this really worth moving?

I’ve had an Orbitrek elliptical machine for a while and it’s been a pretty good home cardio machine. Since I’ve started mountain biking, I haven’t used it all that much since the 2 hour rides are plenty of cardio. So it went into the “No Move” pile of things in the house.

It’s a pretty large piece (3 ft wide x 5 ft high x 4 long ) or so, so shipping it after an ebay sale would probably not make a lot of sense. Instead, I listed it on craigslist locally. I put up a nice pic and some Grade B marketing copy and waited patiently. In about 2 weeks, it sold. I put a little money in my pocket, the buyer gets a good cardio machine for a great price, and it’s one less thing I have to move. Sweet.

I’ve listed some throw pillows for sale too and plan to get some paintings up there this week. No fees for listing on Craigslist and you get it up there for 45 days. Not bad at all. Craigslist, i love you

I woke up on a Sunday morning and was greeted with evil. I walked out of the house and hopped into my car ready to drive up to see my folks for the day. I looked over the parking lot and saw a sherriff’s car. I thought it was weird and curiousity getting the better of me, I left my car to ask what was going on. A neighbor told me that someone had slashed one tire from each car in our neighborhood. I ran back to my car and to my horror I had a flat. Then I looked at Yara’s car and she had a flat. Then I looked at my brother’s car and he had a flat too. Awful night to leave his car at my house.

Instead of driving up to see my folks and getting some good homecooking, I spent the morning changing three flats and the afternoon buying replacement tires. The person(s) just did this to be mean. I don’t think there was much point other than that. The sheriff didn’t seem like he was going to search the ends of the Earth for the perpetrator either. Just another vandal as far as he was concerned. I’ll probably never get an update from my police report.

Now I wonder every day when I walk out in the morning if my tires will be okay or if something else will be stolen or damaged. Mean people really suck.

When people ask me how our trip we went, I say “We had a lot of fun.” Notice I didn’t say, “I freaking robbed that casino. I’m retiring!!!” or “I beat down that blackjack table like a cheap trick in Bangkok”. No, I mention nothing of profit or overwhelming victory, because there was none. Sad for me, yes. But I hope now, some little children in Mississippi can get new pencils in their classrooms. I guess I should really work on my blackjack skills. I did manage to end the first night up a few bucks, but then it all came crashing down when I decided I would try to win enough money to get a new laptop. No laptop for me for a while. Hey, that’s gambling.

Minal doubled her money. Congrats to her!!

Here were some of the non-gambling highlights:
The drive down was really good. We drove the Highlander down. It was a really nice smooth ride. I was comfortable the whole way. Plus the easy access to the rear cargo area made our cooler easy to get stuff out of. We ate grapes and had cold drinks the whole way down. Would have been impossible in the Accord.

We stopped by a candy factory called Priester’s Pecans. Apparently, they make the 2nd best pecan pies in the world. Never ask who makes the first. Their stuff was tasty and it was the first candy I’ve had since being on my low carb diet. After eating it, I don’t miss candy.

I found out Ruby Tuesday has really changed their menu. They have a lot of low carb items and they actually put a lott of nutrition information on their menus. It’s pretty cool and I’ll need to go to RT more often. I had a burger wrap that was actually really good.

Finally, if you go gambling, never gamble anything you aren’t prepared to lose. That’s my helpful life advice for the day.

There’s been a lot going on in my world lately and I’ve been ignoring my blog. I did manage to get a ton of vioxx ads, so I installed a nice piece of software called MT-Blacklist. It helps me clean out all that annoying garbage and self-promotion.

Where to begin? I was up in North Carolina a while ago. Yara and I visited UNC-Chapel Hill for residency programs, business schools, law schools, and Gerry Andrady. Gerry is a great friend from my Deloitte days. In some ways, he is a lot like a male Yara, careful, dependable, and risk-averse. Or maybe Yara is Gerry-like. He showed us what had changed in NC since we last left. His brother, Anthony, gave me one of the fastest experiences I’ve ever had. He let me ride in his silver bullet Acura NSX. This has to be one of the fastest production cars in the world. It was unbelievable how well that car gripped the road and adored the gas. Those things should be licensed as time machines because the world seems to slow down even though you are racing along at 90 mph in a 30 mph zone. We cruised with the T-tops off and wind blowing through our hair. Then he let me drive the car. Oh my God. There are no words to describe the experience, except a sacred communion between man and machine. Amen. Thank you Anthony from the bottom of my heart. We also got to drive around a Spyder convertible the whole weekend, but it of course paled in comparison after driving the NSX.

Let’s see here, Yara and I watched the peep show that was the Super Bowl. I’ve noticed that Justin’s apology stated that it was unintentional and an accident. Janet’s apology stated that it was planned after the final rehearsals. I really doubt that MTv will be doing the half-time show next year, but it will likely be some major entertainment stars without the channel sponsor. Her nipple ring was cool, but I don’t think it brought about the results Janet wanted. Apparently, Justin’s dumb album sales have risen since the incident. I still can’t believe that Janet did part of Rhythm Nation, that song is so old!!

Kerry for President? I guess Dean is too much of a radical and just too outside. Kerry is now the dominant front runner. He is considered the most electable and most likely to beat Bush. However, Kerry is the ultimate political insider. He’s been a career politician, married into a fortune (Heinz), and went to the same schools as GWB (Yale ‘66). He may end up being too much of an insider. Will we have a Goldilocks like situation and end up somewhere in the middle? Edwards or Clark. Doubtful. It seems Kerry will continue to ride the press wave through the March primaries and lock in the nomination. Unless, some A+ dirt can be dished out about him. If there was some, it would surely have been released by now. The only other case is if the Republicans release it for the fall election.

Personally, I’ve been doing my thing. I’ve been skiing a lot lately. We got back from a week of skiing in Steamboat and are going to Vail in another two weeks for another week. I’m trying to drop some quick pounds so my knees won’t throb so much after some long skiing. I’ve been doing blacks lately. The key for me was to learn how to use my poles to turn. Now moguls aren’t so daunting as long as they aren’t deeper than my knees. I even had a chance to practice my skiing in powder. It’s a lot different than skiing groomed snow when the powder gets deep. It’s fun to fall in though.

I’m off to bed now. Hope you are a little happier now Hume and the rest of you. I’m not dead.

Yara and I went up to Boston for her job interviews and ended up staying around for the worst December storm in Boston’s history. It’s nice to be around for those historical disasters. It snowed a little over two feet. It was fun to have a white Christmas for this Southern boy.

I got a chance to visit the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. It’s a pretty amazing place and if you get a chance to go you should. Part of the building has been designed by I. M. Pei, a famous modern architect. The exhibits really fascinated me. The two I really liked were the modern furniture exhibit and some artist’s selection of important works. The modern furniture really showed the evolution of artisan furniture. Additionally, there were pieces of artisan furniture all around the museum you could sit on, which was even cooler. The artist selection was cool It showed the breadth of the MFA’s collection and how American art differs from European art. Apparently, American art is more experiential and story based, whereas the European art is just more plain artistic and able to stand on its own without a story with it.

Anyways, I have a ticket for the museum that is good for a revisit for a year. So, if anyone wants to have a free ticket to the MFA, send me an email and I’ll mail it to you. Sorry I don’t have a pair. It’s enjoyable for one person too.

Congratulations to me. Less than a year ago, I was nowhere on Google. My nerdy self, typed in my moniker and I came up with a big fat nothing! All I could find were a couple of old flight squadron reunions that happened to have a Harry and someone named Park in there. Now I’m officially lucky because when you type in Harry Park in google and click “I’m feeling lucky”, you get me. Now this could be an opportunity to put in a hoax type of page, but I don’t feel too many type in Harry Park to be told they have gotten a windows virus like this one (beware!!).

Just a little while ago I was 2nd, so I seem to have gone up in the past month! I realize this could be frustrating for other “Harry Park”s out there in the world. Life is unfair. Dwell on this.

Is it any wonder that an anagram of “Google” is “Ego Log”? Now I’m going to go listen to that Nelly “#1″ song…
